Pork Producer Brings Home the Bacon at Great Taste Awards 2009
Ballencrieff Rare Pedigree Pigs picked up a gold award for their unsmoked middle bacon at the Great Taste Awards organised by the Guild of Fine Foods.
The business has won six golds and one silver award in the competition over the past four years and last year won the Speciality of Scotland Award.
High profile judges of the competition this year included Charles Campion and Anthony Worrall-Thompson. Out of 4,873 entries only 1,030 were awarded gold stars.

Ballencrieff Rare Pedigree Pigs
Here at Ballencrieff we offer an altenative to intensive farming.
We farm old-fashioned breeds of pigs in the old-fashioned way to produce
a taste of yesteryear.
Our sows run outside all year round and the piglets are born and reared free range..
We mix all our feed, cure all our own bacon and make all our own sausages. But, it is what we don't do that is most important. We don't use any growth promoters or drugs in our pig feed. We let the pigs grow at their own natural speed, which is very slow with our rare breeds.
